THE EXZEL BAND

REPERTOIRE: VARIETY (Various kinds of music from 70’s to the present)

BAND MEMBERS: 2 FEMALE 5 MALE

MEMBERS BACKGROUND:

SINGERS:

RUMMEL HERAMIA

Rummel studied at the school of Music, Dance and in Hamburg, Germany, where he spent his adolescence. With his background in music, he was chosen to front act in a concert featuring the UP Singing Ambassadors in Germany. He was also commissioned to guest in shows together with some of the local artist who had singing engagements in Europe in 1996.

After 10 years of living in Germany, he went back to Manila to pursue his interest in music. He enrolled at Center for Pop Music Philippines, and later on was chosen to be a vocal coach. His vocal flexibility made him back-up singer for all CPMP major concerts and shows; and also as one of the director’s fave, has always been included in the list of guest performers for all CPMP special engagements.

CRISTINA CALOMARDE

A mezzo-soprano of the Sto. Domingo Chorale in Muntinlupa who performed during the World Youth Day ’95 Mass celebration here in Manila. After 10 years of singing for the chorale, she was trained at the Center for Pop Music Philippines. And was appointed as Head Coach in Las Pinas branch afterwards. An active performer for CPMP staff, and that is to include the founder and director himself, Mr. Butch Albarracin. The casts of “Best Friends” and “Ang TV Batch 96-97” are among the talents produced by Tina.

ROMENA PAYSON

Singer and vocal coach at the Center for Pop Music Philippines for 2 years, has a different knack in fashion and likes alternative pop rock music. Mitch has a typical rebellious character and it manifest once she is on stage.

RHYTHM SECTION:

JOSEPH JAYCRUZ “Drums”

An indispensable member of the band, he worked closely with Amiel in terms of musicality of the group. Jay has performed with the band called PAINTED BLACK and has played in several establishments such as Chatterbox, R & B Angeles, Calzada Davao, Spice Bar Palawan, Lisboa Hotel, Macau. Born with the beat of the drum in his heart, he excelled in playing his favorite instrument since grade school; more so, now that he’s a drummer on-the-loose.

MARCEL PADAYAO “Guitarist”

Originally played the guitar as a hobby, he formally became a member of a band since 1994. Marcel, who also plays drums, has performed in several establishments such as Jecson’s Hotel in Tarlac, Radio Marikina, and Bistro Marikina. He was also asked to play the guitar for the band who performed back to back with Ritchie Padilla in 1996; and also to front act for Lodestone’s concert. His virtuoso in the six-strings enabled him to be flexible, and thus can play from jazz to heavy metal.

MARK JIMENEZ “Bassist”

A musician by nature, Mark also plays the keyboard and composes songs as well. The youngest in the rhythm section. Mark has traveled around the globe thru a cruise ship for a year. He wishes to curve a name in the industry in the years to come.

AMIEL YAMBALIA “Keyboardist”

A degree holder from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Sto. Tomas, Amiel also plays almost everything each band member can such as lead & bass guitar, drums, saxophone, and harmonica aside from keyboard. First trained at the CPMP, while in college, he then became a Training Officer/Head Coach for the said institution, making him one of it’s pioneer employees. He also worked as a song arranger and musical director for shows produced by CPMP. A jack-of-all-trades that he is, he contributed a great part in bringing up forth his students’s superb artistry to the public. Some of his protégées are Dessa, Nina Garado, and the group “Tangerine”.

His devotion to music never stops that after college, he joined a group of musicians who performed in Korea and Malaysia. After several years of performing abroad, he decided to form a group of proficient voice trainors and music enthusiasts, and thus giving birth to XZEL. Being a very hard working and talented musician that he is, he took responsibility of being the musical director of the band.

With the pursuit in bringing satisfaction-guaranteed entertainment to people who appreciated voice and rhythm and their versatility in the field of music, they are now ready to take off. And they are called “XZEL”.
